Picket Fence

NoonPicket fences are a type of fence often used decoratively for domestic boundaries, distinguished by their evenly-spaced vertical boards, the pickets, attached to horizontal rails. Picket fences are particularly popular.

Why is it called a picket fence?

A picket fence is usually 0.91 m (3 ft) to 1.21 m (4 ft) tall. A horizontal top rail and bottom rail are attached to fence posts, which are installed upright into the ground. Evenly-spaced boards are affixed vertically to the rails. These boards with pointed tops are called “pickets” for their resemblance to the pointed stakes historically used by infantry to repel cavalry. Typically for enclosed picket fences, a gate is required to provide an entry point.

Picket fences can be made of several types of materials. Historically, wood has been the most popular material used for picket fences. It can be untreated, treated, or naturally insect- and rot-resistant. Other options include polyvinyl chloride and aluminium.

Using wooden pallets is an inexpensive and easy way to create an attractive picket fence for your yard. This is also a great great recycled-items project.

Installation

The first step in installing a picket fence is to insert the posts into the ground. Traditionally this is done by digging deep holes (usually 36in x 12in) either manually or with a power auger. The posts are then placed upright into the ground and concrete is poured to cement them into place. Once they are set, the horizontal rails are affixed to the posts using fasteners, and finally the pickets can be attached to the horizontal rails. By far the most time-consuming part of installing a picket fence is setting the posts.

There are some vinyl picket fence systems on the market that are installed without digging holes or pouring concrete. These are installed by driving pipe deep into the ground, which is how chain link fence has been installed for years. This is the most popular way to install vinyl fence in Western Canada, where the deep frost can heave concrete footings out of the ground.

Larch Lap Fence With Wooden Posts

  1. Larch lap fence panels are a popular type of budget fencing option made with rough-sawn horizontal wooden slats, a very common sight in many gardens today. Larch lap panels are sometimes called waney lap or overlap, but the different names all refer to the same type of fence panel. An affordable larch lap fence panel can be a great starting point if you’re looking at renewing a garden boundary.

This traditional type of overlapping fence provides privacy to your garden, so it’s an affordable screening solution for boundary fencing. Larch lap panels are usually provided in standard 6-foot widths, but various heights are always readily available – 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 6ft are very popular.

Larch Lap fencing is a popular and traditional choice for garden privacy. This kind of fencing is similar to the Closeboard, but is not as robust and long-lived, however larch lap fencing is faster to put up, and cheaper to install and replace. Larchlap fences are still reliable for privacy and security however, and can be installed with gates. Like close board fencing, it can be used with timber posts and gravel boards.

In terms of installation, larch lap panels can either be nailed between or to the face of timber posts. Given their less robust form, we suggest adding concrete gravel boards to keep larch lap fence panels off the ground to prevent rot, but this is completely optional. Trellis can also be added to the top as an optional decorative feature, but don’t forget to make sure your posts are tall enough to fix trellis above the height of the fence panel.

Hoarding Fencing Construction Site

Hoarding fence is a temporary fencing around a building or structure under construction or repair, usually erected around a building site. These are used to protect the public from site works whilst also being used to display advertisements. Enabling the building site to carry on working.

The Hoarding fencing is normally wooden boarded fencing. The panels are normally made from plywood and they tend to be for one use.

It is also known as construction hoarding fence when used at construction sites.

Temporary fencing is an alternative to its permanent counterpart when a fence is required on an interim basis when needed for storage, public safety or security, crowd control, or theft deterrence.

Hoarding fence is a free standing, self-supporting fence panel, the panels are held together with couplers that interlock panels together making it portable and flexible for a wide range of applications.

If you are interested in or think that Hoarding style of fencing would be an option for you, please do get in touch. We are more than happy to go over the options and styles we are able to offer for construction sites as well as temporary fencing options that are needed for a short term period.

Acoustic Fence

Acoustic fencing, can also be known as Acoustic barrier fencing or Soundproofing fencing is able to reduce or prevent sound and noise.

Soundproof Fencing

Acoustic fencing has been designed and tested to provide a reduction in sound level. Soundproof fences act as insulators and are basically modified to prevent sound waves coming from the external environment and thus creating a soundproof environment.

Acoustic fencing is a type of soundproof fencing method used by many areas ranging from residential, education and transport to commercial and industrial, to reduce unwanted environmental and external noise pollution. Acoustic fencing is designed to reduce the impact of environmental noise pollution, which has been shown to cause chronic stress, hearing damage, hypertension, diabetes and even heart problems.

Quality acoustic barrier fencing can reduce noise pollution by up to 32 decibels. As per study, the level at which detrimental health effects become evident is 55 decibels, while WHO guidelines for night-time noise recommend less than 40 decibels to prevent adverse health effects.

Acoustic Barrier Fence

The acoustic barrier fence is built to keep out environmental noise (high winds) as well as external noise pollution (caused by the surrounding people, vehicles & machinery).

Acoustic fencing works by creating an adequate barrier to disturb and repel any unwanted sound. This can have an extreme effect, noticeably reducing noise levels and minimising any previous disruption. Timber acoustic fencing achieves most of the noise reduction by reflecting sound waves back off the wooden panels, so the soundproofing improves as fence height increases.

Acoustic Fence Panels

Aside from effective noise management, acoustic fence panels offer greater levels of privacy and are more aesthetically pleasing than industrial-styled security fencing. Acoustic fencing in a school environment not only creates a noise barrier to boost pupil learning by creating a calmer working environment, it can also improve community relations and reduce complaints from local residents.

The effectiveness of any noise barrier is dependent on five main factors:

  • Material density
  • Barrier construction
  • Barrier height
  • Distance between noise source and receiver
  • Relative height of source and receiver with respect to barrier

An acoustic barrier should have a lifespan of at least 20 years.

Our high-quality timber acoustic fencing is an attractive, environmentally-friendly solution to the problem of noise pollution.

Closeboard Panels With Wooden Posts

The Closeboard Panel has a heavy duty framework that provides added stability and security for your fencing boundary. Partnered with Wooden fence posts, these are typically pressure treated, meaning that they are protected from rot and decay that is common in wooden products, especially ones that are being inserted into the ground. The pressure treatment also means that they won’t need any additional treatments to be applied during their life.

The rough sawn timber has been dip treated to provide the fencing panels with protection against rot.

The panel comes complete with a top cap fitted.

The Close Board panel is our most popular offering excellent strength, durability and security at a reasonable price.

Closeboard Fence With Wooden Posts

Close board fencing (also known as featherboard fencing) is a strong, solid fence constructed with overlapping vertical feather-edge wooden boards. It can be erected using timber or concrete posts and gravel boards. Trellis can be added on top as a decorative feature. It has become a popular choice for most gardens providing a better wind resistant fence and well tested against strong winds.

The Pressure Treated Timber posts provide a decorative alternative to concrete posts. As these are pressure treated they will last longer than the ordinary timber posts. Fence panels are fitted to timber posts using panel clips and fixed to the ground using either bolt down post supports or the metal post spikes. Alternatively they can be concreted into the ground.

Concrete fence posts provide strength and durability to your fencing and are not susceptible to rot in the ground.

All of the closebaord fencing works well with the concrete posts, given you the extra support and life of your fencing.

These fence posts are cast with mixed concrete and contain 4 steel reinforcing bars. They have a grey concrete coloured finish.
